2014 Great Taste Awards
It's officially great, it's another 8!
Terra Rossa, importer and producer of exquisite Arabian specialities is once again celebrating having scooped eight prestigious 2014 Great Taste Awards out of the 13 entered products - making the running total of 45 GTA's spanning nine years of trading.
Terra Rossa's range has been recognised by the GTA awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food and recognised as a benchmark for speciality food and drink. Described as the 'Oscars' of the fine food world a Great Taste Award is a much coveted accolade for anyone in the food industry and acknowledges a product for its high quality and outstanding taste.
This year Terra Rossa's repeat 2-star winner Zesty Sumac Citrus Berry, is an essential ingredient in Arabic cooking and relished for its sourness and astringency. "This is a quality Sumac, it's out of the top drawer ... A distinguished product'. As commented by the judges. Sumac is made from a red berry and has an intense citrus flavour which transforms fish, meat, salads with that perfect zingy note.
A recent addition to Terra Rossa's portfolio is Freekeh, the wonder grain, an early harvest green wheat with a slightly nutty, wonderful earthy flavour, stuffed to bursting with protein, minerals and vitamins. The judges sampled this cooked with barberries and Baharat and bestowed it a 1-star GTA Award commenting "We loved the textures and were impressed by the intelligent use of mixing of the ingredients... We really enjoyed this".
Two of Terra Rossa's traditional Mezze received awards; Lebny strained yoghurt with Zaatar Sauce and Harissa Houmous. Also recognised for great flavour were Terra Rossa's Aubergine Relish combining Jordanian herbs with the exotic flavour of pomegranate and date molasses with Judges commenting on the well balanced flavours and freshness.
Baba's Rashi and Dibis, another repeat 1-star Great Taste winner - is a sweet spread made from tahini sesame paste, date molasses and is the Arabian equivalent of a chocolate spread.
Of course Terra Rossa is best known for its amazing extra virgin olive oils which continue to receive awards year after year and 2014 is no exception. Garlic infused olive oil won its 2nd GTA and Basil infused oliveoil its 5th consecutive GTA.
2013 Great Taste Awards
The saying goes that quality is more important than quantity, but for Terra Rossa both are high on the agenda as this family-run Arabian food speciality company, now in its 8th year, has just added a further six Guild of Fine Food 2013 Great Taste Awards to its already extensive collection.
This year Terra Rossa's Chilli infused extra virgin olive oil was recognised for its intense, fiery flavour with a Great Taste Two Star Award and is perfect drizzled on pizza, adds a punch to any dip or marinade, or simply dunk and eat with freshly baked crusty bread.
Equally versatile is Terra Rossa's Basil infused extra virgin olive oil, which received its 4th consecutive Great Taste Award, and was acknowledged for its delicious, fresh herby flavour. Basil oil will not only add a zing to any sauce, new potatoes, meat or vegetable dish, but turns a plain salad into something delectable to the taste buds.
Terra Rossa is also renowned for its authentic Middle Eastern herbs and sauces and both its Herby Zaatar, which is a blend of fragrant thyme, zesty sumac and the nutty texture of Sesame seeds and its Sumac which is made from a red berry with a lemony flavour, scooped Great Taste Awards.
Made from abundant ripe Middle Eastern olives and rich passata, Terra Rossa's Olive and Tomato relish is deserving of its Great Taste One Star Award with its outstanding recipe created with tomatoes, garlic, shallots and infused with Zaatar. The rich juicy ingredients with natural sweetness from tomatoes and a hint of pomegranate and date molasses give this sauce a unique, mouth-watering taste which complements pasta, couscous, fish, chicken and numerous European dishes too.
Finally - another Great Taste One Star Award went to a favourite family recipe of Terra Rossa's, Baba's Rashi and Dibis - a gorgeous sweet spread made from Tahini Sesame paste, date molasses and spices. Terra Rossa's Baba's Rashi and Dibis is eaten in the same way that as chocolate spread and is therefore ideal for porridge, pancakes, ice cream and devoured with pistachios.
2012 Great Taste Awards
Award Winning Middle Eastern Flavours
Anyone passionate about delicious food that has a reliable seal of approval based on great taste should look no further than Terra Rossa, which has just scooped another six Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food for 2012-2013.
Terra Rossa is by no means new to the Great Taste and International Awards, having received numerous accolades over the past 7 years and this year is no exception.
Terra Rossa, a family run business that was established seven years ago, is passionate about its products and is the sole importer and distributor of some of the world's finest ultra-premium extra virgin olive oils from Jordan, Palestine and Lebanon. Terra Rossa also introduces a host of authentic Arabic food products to UK palates from herbs to sweets and mouth-watering Anglo-Arabian sauces and dips.
Made from roasted red berries which have an intense lemony flavour, it is an essential ingredient in Arabic cooking and has received a much coveted Two Star Great Taste Award. Zesty Sumac is the Middle Eastern equivalent of sweet and sour and adds a citrusy flavour to everything from Kebabs, Salads and even ice cream.
Terra Rossa also received a further five Great Taste Awards for:
Manna from Heaven
A special sweet made from the resin of trees which grow only in the north of Iraq and date back to Biblical times.
Manna from Heaven is usually mixed with pistachios, almonds and cardamom and is the perfect accompaniment to a good cup of coffee. Presented in a hand-made Jordanian bag with traditional cloth, it makes an ideal gift for someone with a sweet tooth.
The most popular and versatile herb mix of the Levant, is a delicious mix of fragrant Thyme, the award winning Zesty Sumac and the nutty texture of sesame seeds.
Although traditionally eaten by dunking a piece of bread into the oil and then into the Zaatar, its culinary uses by no means stops there and is indeed one of the main ingredients in making the ubiquitous Manaqeesh - Arabic bread topped with olive oil and zaatar - Arabic pizza.
Finally three of Terra Rossa's finest infused extra virgin olive oils, Chilli, Basil and Garlic also received Great Taste Awards - with the Basil oil receiving its third consecutive Award.
These oils are made from Terra Rossa's first cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil and are lovingly infused with a minimum of 250g of fresh hand-picked herbs per litre which makes them beautifully fragrant and flavoursome and yet subtle enough to use without overpowering any dish. Aside from being amazing to dunk with freshly baked bread, they are ideal to drizzle over your favourite deli dip such as houmous, pasta, salads and roasted vegetables and are fabulous to use as marinades for lamb, chicken and fish.
Hanan Samara, founder of Terra Rossa and co-presenter of a new TV series with celebrity chef Sophie Grigson in Jordan starting on the Travel Channel at the end of August, comments:
“We are delighted that so many of our products have received recognition for excellence in the Great Taste Awards this year introducing many to the exotic flavours of the Middle East. This, together with the new TV series which explains how such oils, herbs and sweets are traditionally prepared and eaten, as well as exploring the Jordanian culture, will hopefully encourage more and more British people to experiment with new ingredients and try cooking up some Middle Eastern recipes for themselves.”
2011 Great Taste Awards
A Winning Combination
Consumers on the lookout for exceptional, top quality food products guaranteed to stand out from the crowd, will be guided by the 2011 Great Taste Awards - and having achieved four Awards this year, Terra Rossa will be high on their shopping lists.
Renowned for some of the best olive oils in the world, reaped from the sunshine soils of Jordan, two of Terra Rossa’s infused oils - Lemon and Basil - scooped Great Taste 1 Star Gold Awards. Both of these fabulous oils are made from half-green olives that are milled within 10 hours of being hand-picked and are then hand crushed and either cold-dripped or cold-pressed. The fruits and herbs are then left to infuse naturally until the oils change colour and the aroma is fully developed, signifying that the flavours have been completely absorbed.
Consequently, the mouth-watering flavours of Terra Rossa Infused oils give a real punch to any dish and are great for dunking with freshly baked bread, as a marinade for chicken or fish or drizzled over pasta or salad. In fact the zesty flavour of the Lemon infused oil also makes it perfect for sweet dishes such as pancakes, or to give a citrus tang to carrot cake frosting.
The Lemon an Basil oils are also the perfect accompaniment to Terra Rossa’s Herby Zaatar Thyme mix, Spicy Dukka Coriander mix and the Zesty Sumac Berry mix, which are traditionally eaten by dunking bread into the oil and then into any of the mixes.
Probably the best extra virgin olive oil from Morocco, Les Terroirs de Marrakech was recognised again by the Great Taste Awards judges who awarded it a 2 Star Great Taste Award again this year. Presented in a curvaceously shaped bottle, Les Terroirs de Marrakesch is also available in a beautifully produced black gift box embossed with elegant Arabian designs, making it an exclusive gift for special occasions.
While most consumers recognise Terra Rossa for its outstanding olive oils, the company also carries a range of luxury confectionery items including Sugared Almonds, Manna from Heaven and its latest Nougat with Pistachio and Apricot also received a Great Taste 1 Star Gold Award. The unique Arabian flavours of this truly scrumptious mixture of pistachio nuts embedded in nougat and lavishly covered with dried apricot will be a huge hit with nougat lovers everywhere. 1. Zaatar Oat and Cheese Bites - 2 stars GTA:
Terra Rossa's Zaatar Oat Bites are savoury biscuits made from the best oats and cheese in Scotland and the finest award-winning first cold pressed Evoo extra virgin olive oil and Zaatar herb mix from Jordan. The Zaatar Oat Bites are hand baked for extra care and prepared in small mixes in a slow fashion to allow the different flavours of Zaatar which are primarily thyme, sesame seeds and sumac, to soak in and blend with the oats, cheese and olive oil.
Zaatar Oat Bites provide the perfect healthy snack for lovers of fine food who are health conscious, combining not only the cholesterol reducing properties of both oats and extra virgin olive oil, but also the excellent anti-fungal, anti-biotic and anti-microbial properties of Zaatar.

For the oil to have that intense lemony flavour and aroma, at least 250gms of lemons are used to produce a litre of the infused oil.
The lemon oil is great for dipping with Terra Rossa's Zaatar thyme mix, for drizzling over fresh green salad and vegetables, for marinating with fish and chicken, or for simply brushing on when grilling or barbequing for that incredible flavour. It is also sweet enough for use in baking cakes and crêpe suzette.
3. The Evoo Oil - 1 star GTA:
Terra Rossa's first cold pressed extra virgin olive oil (Evoo) is made from half-green hand-picked olives that are crushed with traditional granite stone.
